hey there!
a little bit about Aria
Thanks for being here with me.
My love of the earth sprouted when I was a child in DC learning about trees and bugs. Since then, I’ve been interested in the intersections that connect all things— like how food connects culture, health and wellbeing, the earth and climate, grassroots labor and justice movements, and how our struggles are intertwined and connected intimately.
My work mirrors these weavings, a blend of caring for community -whether as a full-spectrum birthworker and care worker, folk herbalist, Earth tender, or teacher- and a pursuit of creativity and transformation.
origins
I started my full-spectrum doula training in 2022. In the process of becoming a certified full-spectrum doula and birthworker, a dear friend became pregnant and needed support in the early weeks of her pregnancy, I experienced a physical injury from work, and close family navigated new health challenges which required my care and presence.
I have since come to understand that everyone needs a doula or care worker at different times in life, someone who can offer more tailored support than family or friends and oftentimes, a different perspective from those we see day-to-day. To me, Celestial Bodies is an embodiment of the belief that the body is sacred as it is, and that when we open ourselves up to the invitation to connect to the greater Earthbody and ancestors and celestial plane (whatever that may look like to you), we can tap into deep wisdom and presence, which are critical in our personal and collective healing.
my philosophy of care
Your mind, body, and spirit hold inherent wisdom, just as the Earth and our more-than-human kin are wise. As a care companion to you, I aim to support you in maintaining your autonomy, dignity, and awareness of whatever your mind, body, and spirit are navigating. My care is rooted deeply in an anti-oppression politic, and I understand that each of us exists within an intricate web of experiences, identities, and systemic privileges, challenges, and oppressions. That is the nature of being human in this moment.
I became a certified clinical medical assistant in 2019, just 5 months before covid came to my part of the world in March 2020. In the last 5+ years, we’ve learned a lot, both in the realm of science and infectious diseases, post-viral illness and in terms of government response (and lack thereof) to these collective issues. As a former “essential worker,” I see both the ways these societal challenges show up in day-to-day minutia and in the big picture, and understand that it’s on us to care for each other. To mask up for the wellbeing of our disabled kin, ourselves, and our communities. To check in on each other and band together as we navigate systems collapse, rising prices, climate change, and the effects of late-stage capitalism. It’s through this lens of true collective liberation that I offer my efforts and time.
